Moving in Westwood: What to Plan For
Reserving Street Space for the Truck
Westwood’s streets belong to the City of Los Angeles, so temporary no-parking signs come from LADOT. UCLA Housing spells out the steps on its move-in parking page: call LADOT at (213) 485-2298, reach them 5 working days before your move date, and call between 8 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The signs carry a non-refundable fee. LADOT’s FAQ lists the same number for its Special Traffic Control Division.
Moving Into UCLA Housing
UCLA has its own rules about where a moving truck can stop:
- University Apartments for graduate and family students: commercial moving vans, and any vehicle more than 14 feet long or with more than two axles, must park on the street. They are not allowed on University property.
- Weyburn Terrace and Hilgard Apartments: on official move-in days there is a 2-hour limit in the active loading and unloading zones, and a driver must stay with the vehicle.
- Fall move-in: UCLA gives each student a date, a time and an unloading zone. Each year’s dates are on UCLA Housing’s Moving In pages.
Meters, Curbs and Overnight Parking
- Westwood Village meters are part of LA Express Park, where LADOT’s rates vary with demand.
- Yellow curbs are for commercial loading: up to 30 minutes, Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. unless posted otherwise.
- On busy boulevards, look for posted Anti-Gridlock hours, when LADOT turns parking lanes into tow-away driving lanes for the commute.
- UCLA Housing warns that commercial trucks with a logo, or longer than 22 feet, may be cited for parking overnight on city streets.

How Does Pricing Work For A Westwood Move?
